Thein H Oo received his medical degree from the Institute of Medicine II, Rangoon, Burma. He completed internal medicine training at hospitals recognized by the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom and at Albany Medical College, Albany, New York. He underwent Clinical Oncology training at Christie Hospital, Manchester, UK, and Hematology-Medical Oncology Clinical and Research Fellowship at St Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, USA.
During his fellowship training, he received extensive training in clinical hematology and oncology, apheresis medicine, some aspects of laboratory hematology and transfusion medicine. In his final year of fellowship training, he trained as a research fellow in the world-renowned Erythrocyte Membrane Research Laboratory at the St Elizabeth's Medical Center and also served as an Administrative Chief Fellow.
