Thanos Covanis

Dr Covanis graduated from Athens Medical School. He subsequently worked in UK for 11 years in paediatrics, neonatology, child neurology, adult neurology, neurophysiology and epilepsy. He has obtained among others a diploma in child health from the Glasgow University, a diploma in Paediatrics and Adult Neurology from the Athens University, a diploma in Adult Neurology and is certified by the European Epilepsy Academy. Since 80’s until late 2010 he had been the Director of Neurology and Neurophysiology Department, at the Children’s Hospital Agia Sophia, in Athens. Dr Covanis is the current President of IBE (2013-2017). He is also President of the Greek ILAE Chapter, President of the Greek IBE Chapter and the Ambassador for epilepsy. He held several posts in the IBE/ILAE community and has organised numerous including the most recent 9th European Epilepsy Congress in June 2010, Rhodes and the 1st Joint Cypriot-Greek-Russian Epilepsy Workshop, 11th Greek Epilepsy Workshop, February 11th, 2012. Dr Covanis has given many lectures on epilepsy and has contributed as author (co- author) in several articles, in different journals and chapters of books.
