Dr. Teresa Wood currently holds the position of Professor, Rena Warshow Endowed Chair in Multiple Sclerosis and Vice-Chair for Research in the Department of Neurology & Neurosciences at the New Jersey Medical School Cancer Center of Rutgers Biomedical & Health Sciences. Dr. Wood obtained her Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and did postdoctoral training at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, and Columbia University in New York City. She was appointed as an Assistant Professor at The Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1993 and was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor and Full Professor prior to her position at New Jersey Medical School in 2005. Dr. Wood currently serves on the editorial boards of ASN-Neuro, Journal of Mammary Gland Biology & Neoplasia, Growth Hormone, and IGF Research and Frontiers in Cancer Endocrinology. She was the Initiator and Co-Chair of the Gordon Research Conference on Insulin-Like Growth Factors (IGFs) in Physiology and Disease in 2003. She has served as an ad-hoc and regular reviewer for numerous NIH study sections. Dr. Wood received an Excellence in Research Award from the Foundation of UMDNJ in 2010. Dr. Wood has received grant funding for her research from numerous sources over the past 20 years including the NIH, NSF, Department of Defense, American Cancer Society, and the National MS Society. Her current research focus is on understanding signaling pathways regulating self-renewal, proliferation, and differentiation of epithelial stem and progenitor cell populations both in the central nervous system and in mammary/breast tissue during development and in disease pathologies.
