Tejas Patil MD

Dr. Tejas Patil is a thoracic oncologist at the University of Colorado Cancer Center. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and received his undergraduate degrees in psychology and piano performance. He subsequently completed medical school at the University of Southern California, followed by an internship, residency, and hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Colorado. He is an Assistant Professor of Thoracic Oncology and Vice Head of Clinical Affairs at the University of Colorado.

His clinical and research interests include: (1) molecular diagnostics in lung cancer, (2) managing acquired resistance to targeted therapies (such as ALK, EGFR, ROS1 tyrosine kinase inhibitors), and (3) developing rational combinations of therapies based on evolutionary and molecular biology. He has received multiple grants and awards, including the IASLC John Fisher Legacy Young Investigator Award (2019), Hamoui Foundation/LUNGevity Clinical Research Award (2021), Cancer League of Colorado Research Award (2022), Gilead Research Scholars Award (2023), AB Nexus Award (2024), and the NCI Paul Calebresi Scholar Award (2025).

He is interested in novel clinical trials that address unmet needs among our patients with lung cancer. He is an active member of IASLC, NCCN, SWOG, ATOMIC, HCRN, and CIMARA. He also served as the Colorado state president for the Rocky Mountain Oncology Society (RMOS) from 2020 - 2023. He has served as a grant reviewer for multiple national and international organizations, including the Department of Defense, EORTC, RTFCCR (Switzerland), Medical Research Council (UK), National Research Foundation (Singapore), Health Research Council (New Zealand), and the Israel Science Foundation.
