Prof. Dr. Tejas Patel is internationally recognized as one of the world’s pioneers in the field of Transradial Approach (angiography, angioplasty, and stenting through the wrist artery) and has experience in doing more than 100,000 cath lab procedures with 65,000 of them through the transradial route which is unique and makes him one of the most experienced practitioners in the world.

Dr. Patel has also been instrumental in teaching and training more than 5000 cardiologists from India in the same technique through the TRICO (Transradial Interventional Course) that he set up thirteen years ago. These are annual academic courses attended by Interventional Cardiologists from all over the world.

He made global headline news last year when he performed the world’s first-in-human robotic heart surgery, paving the way for life-saving telerobotic operations across the globe. The scientific breakthrough saw coronary intervention performed on a female patient at a distance of 20 miles.

He has also personally designed dedicated catheter curves (patented as PAPA-1 and PAPA-2) for use in the transradial technique which is now manufactured in the USA. In his spare time, he has authored 277 publications, 19 chapters in different textbooks, 148 original articles, and 107 abstracts in reputed national and international journals. He's also written three books, now used as training manuals around the world; Patel’s Atlas of Transradial Intervention: The Basics, Patel’s Atlas of Transradial Intervention: The Basics & Beyond, and Patel’s Atlas of Complications of Coronary Interventions: Plan-B.

He says: "Our vision at Apex is to be leaders in research and we are well placed to achieve it, as we have the right technology and the right mindset. In this direction, we have instituted TRICO (Transradial Intervention Course) by leveraging the knowledge and practices of world-renowned interventional cardiologists, which today is the largest and the most popular radial course in the world."
