Dr. Anderson earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi with a focus in marine biology, cell biology, and genetics. He then transitioned to Vanderbilt University, where he earned a Ph.D. in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. His thesis research examined the hormonal control of molecular changes in the uterine lining related to embryo-uterine recognition, adhesion, and implantation. Following a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology at Baylor College of Medicine, he completed a research fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia, where he remained as junior faculty. As his research activities took a decidedly more clinical focus, he returned to Vanderbilt for his medical training, graduating in 1993.

Dr. Anderson completed an internship in anatomic pathology and subsequently completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as a fellowship in reproductive pelvic surgery. He spent the early part of his clinical career at the (HCA) Centennial Women’s Hospital, where he served as chair of the ObGyn department before returning to Vanderbilt in 2005 and ascending to his current position. He has served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and its Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Board. He has been very active in ACOG since his residency and currently serves on the ACOG Executive Board.
