Ted Arnold PhD

Assoc. Prof Ted Arnold Graduated from Otago University Medical School undertook further experience in Surgery in NZ and then in urology in the UK at Institute of Urology and at the Middlesex Hospital. Attained a PhD from University of London on aspects of bladder responses to outlet obstruction.

Returned to Dunedin in 1973 to an academic appointment in Urology. Established the first urodynamic clinic in Australasia, and subsequently moved to a similar position in Christchurch. Interests are in functional urology and Spinal injury. Founding member and first Chairman of the Burwood Academy of Independent Living. Following retirement as Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Otago, Christchurch has continued with some clinical research in areas of incontinence care in the elderly, on bowel and bladder function following spinal injury, and on urodynamics and variability in flow rates and post-void residual urine. An active member of the Urological Society of Australia and NZ, International Continence Society(ICS), Committee member of the joint SIU/IUCD consultation on urological management of the spinal cord injured patient, and current committee member on ICS Standardisation committee in regards to male lower urinary tract symptoms.
