Prof. Tatjana Avsic Zupanc is a virologist. She is the Head of the Laboratory for diagnosis of Zoonoses at the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She has more than 30 years of experience in the clinical diagnostics and research of zoonotic vector-borne diseases, mainly arboviruses and viral hemorrhagic fevers represented in more than 180 publications. Her laboratory has the role of reference center at the national and international level, for Hantaviruses, TBE, and CCHF viruses and has been a WHO Collaborating Centre for Arboviruses and Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers.

Prof. Tatjana Avsic Zupanc and her colleagues conduct research on genetic variability and pathogenesis of vector-borne pathogens with relation to their host-vector-man relationship. Prof. Avšič-Županc is a full professor of Medical Microbiology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, and the head of research activity at the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology. She is a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Art and over the past 20 years, she has been a principal investigator on numerous national and international research projects.
