Dr. Tariq Ahmad is an accomplished cardiologist and academic physician specializing in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology. He serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Section of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and is a key leader within the Heart Failure Program at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Ahmad’s clinical expertise includes the management of end-stage heart failure, cardiomyopathies, advanced valvular heart disease, left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), and heart transplantation. He is widely recognized for caring for patients with complex and advanced cardiovascular conditions, often focusing on innovative and individualized treatment strategies.

He earned his medical degree from Stony Brook University School of Medicine and completed a Master of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Ahmad completed his internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, followed by fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and advanced heart failure at Duke University Medical Center, where he also trained at the Duke Clinical Research Institute.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ahmad is an active investigator whose research centers on improving outcomes in heart failure through data-driven approaches, pragmatic clinical trials, and health systems innovation. His work has contributed significantly to the understanding of heart failure therapies, risk stratification, and care delivery models.
