Tarik Asselah is a Professor in Hepatology at Hopital Beaujon, University of Paris Diderot, France. He received his Medical Degree in Gastroenterology-Hepatology and also holds a Ph.D. in Virology in Paris. His major fields of research are natural history of chronic hepatitis B and C (Virology, fibrogenesis, insulin resistance) and clinical trials on new molecules. He also works on Gene expression and viral infection: implications in fibrosis progression and response to treatment. He has a particular interest in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C (with new direct acting antivirals).

Dr Asselah is a member of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and has published widely in the field of viral hepatitis with numerous original articles, book chapters, and reviews in several journals (Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Blood, Gut, Journal of Hepatology, etc…). He has been selected as a rising star in Gastroenteology in 2009 by the ASNMGE in appreciation of his outstanding scientific work. He received a prize for his genomic studies on HCV in 2005 by the French Association for the Liver Disease (AFEF).
