Tara R. Whetsel PharmD, BCACP, BC-ADM

Tara Whetsel earned her B.S. in pharmacy and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. After earning her PharmD, she completed an ambulatory care residency at the Louis Stokes V.A. Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Whetsel is currently a Clinical Associate Professor and Ambulatory Care Clinical Pharmacist at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. She coordinates and teaches the Nonprescription Drug course. In 2011, Dr. Whetsel redesigned this course using a flipped classroom model. Other teaching responsibilities include precepting introductory pharmacy practice experiences and advanced pharmacy practice experiences, and lecturing on medication therapy management, tobacco cessation, and other ambulatory care topics.

Dr. Whetsel provides patient care at Cheat Lake Physicians and Milan Puskar Health Right (MPHR) Clinic. Services include medication therapy management and diabetes education and management. She is the program coordinator for the MedCheck program, a collaboration between the WVU School of Pharmacy and MPHR where faculty preceptors and third-year student pharmacists provide medication therapy management services to uninsured, low-income patients. Dr. Whetsel also provides education and drug therapy recommendations for the primary care providers at the clinics. She is board certified as an ambulatory care pharmacist and in advanced diabetes management.
