Dr. Tierney is a medical educator with a specific interest in patient-centered communication and simulation-based teaching. As the lead for clinical communication, she has developed a curriculum which provides opportunities for students to develop patient-centered interviewing skills through self-reflection and feedback.
She has research interests in the role of linguistics and language barrier in the medical setting and is collaborating with the school of linguistics and multilingual studies on several projects analyzing the clinical encounter in bother real practice and simulation. She has championed Medical Humanities within LKCMedicine, facilitating collaboration with Imperial College London and the creation of a joint appointment between the school of medicine and Humanities at NTU.
As head of student welfare, she was key in the design and implementation of the LKCMedicine House system, which provides holistic pastoral care and student support. Through her various roles at LKCMedicine, Dr. Tierney aims to encourage students to practice with their hearts as well as their heads to be passionate about their work and aware of their own wellbeing
