Dr. Tangui Maurice, Ph.D. is a Research Director at the INSERM U1198. His research team includes scientists, engineers, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students. The research interests include behavioral and molecular neuropharmacology, neuroscience, behavioral and therapeutic effects of sigma receptor ligands, neuropeptides, neurosteroids, and neurotrophic factors, mainly in normal and pathological aging models (Alzheimer's disease and related disorders), learning and memory, response to stress and depression, addiction and the behavioral phenotyping of rodent models. T Maurice's team made major discoveries in the behavioral impacts of sigma-1 receptor ligands in learning and memory and neuroprotection against neurodegenerative processes, a field where he is regarded as an expert. His team contributed to the pre-clinical characterization of a new lead candidate, ANAVEX2-73, now in phase IIb/III development. He also described a powerful nontransgenic model of Alzheimer's disease with a strong face, descriptive and predictive validities, and the intracerebroventricular injection of oligomeric amyloid beta25-35 peptide in rodents. During his career, T. Maurice has established active collaborations with many academic groups and Pharma companies researchers. T. Maurice published 140+ research articles, including 15 review articles (citation index 7,000; H factor 44), gave more than 250 communications at national and international meetings, and 35 invited lectures. In 2009, he was the founder of Amylgen, a CRO company based near Montpellier. He also heads the company behavioral phenotyping facility, at the University of Montpellier. He was a member of several scientific advisory boards for Eisai, Anavex Life Sciences, or Zogenix, and regularly performs consulting activities and contract-based collaborations with numerous pharmaceutical companies. As an expert, he reviews grants and scientific articles and acts as field editor for several journals. He is regularly an elected member of the CNRS National Committee (Paris).
