Tammy K. Swecker RDH, BSDH, MEd

Tammy Swecker graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in 1993 and Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education with a Master of Adult Education and Human Resource Development in 2005. In 1997, Tammy began her affiliation with the Division of Dental Hygiene as adjunct faculty by serving as the site supervisor for the Dental Medicine rotation at VCU Health System, teaching students how to dentally prepare medically compromised patients for organ transplants, radiation therapy, and cardiothoracic surgeries. In August of 2006, Tammy became part-time faculty with the school, teaching in didactic and clinical areas. In February 2007, Tammy became a full-time Assistant Professor with the Division of Dental Hygiene, and in July 2013, was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. Tammy serves as the junior and senior clinical coordinator for Clinical Dental Hygiene I, II, and III. She is the director of Management of the Medically Compromised Patient and Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office.

She represents the School of Dentistry on the University’s Council for Community Engagement, is a Board Member of the Medical College of Virginia Alumni Association, and serves as the Scholarship Committee Chair and Board of Trustees Secretary for the MCVAA Board. Most notably, Tammy served as a dental hygiene member of the Virginia Board of Dentistry, term July 2012-2016. She is a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association and the American Dental Education Association.
