Dr Abdelhak earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University College of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. He practiced Medicine in Egypt for a few years before immigrating to USA. He then completed a Neurology residency at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA and a postdoctoral clinical fellowship in NeuroCritical care at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Dr Abdelhak is American board-certified in Vascular Neurology, NeuroCritical care, and Neurology and Psychiatry. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the NeuroCritical Care Society (Chair of the Advocacy Committee), the American Heart Association (Stroke Council), the American Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the American Academy of Neurology.

Dr Abdelhak is actively involved as a clinical investigator for several clinical trials for intracranial hemorrhage and traumatic brain injury. He is also actively involved in residency and fellowship education. He is coauthor of several peer-reviewed publications, and is a frequent invited speaker on NeuroCritical care topics at local, national, and international scientific meetings.

He is a field reviewer for the Joint Commission for Comprehensive Stroke Certification in USA. He is also the vice president of the North America region for the International PanArab Critical Care Medicine Society.
