Tamara A. Baker, PhD, is an associate professor in the department of psychology at the University of Kansas. She received her PhD from Penn State University in biobehavioral health, and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan. She is editor of the first handbook on minority aging issues (Handbook of Minority Aging), and is the current editor for Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, and appointed editor for Ethnicity & Health. Her research has been successfully funded by the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute on Aging, and the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Disorders. Dr. Baker’s interests focus on examining disparities in pain management among older adults, with an emerging interest in understanding the role social determinants have on the physical and mental health, and social well-being of marginalized populations.
