Dr. Fehmi joined UCSD in 2009. Prior to that he was at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is an endoscopy specialist with expertise in complex procedures including ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreaticography), EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound) guided needle biopsy, etc. He works closely with community physicians and Moores Cancer Center UCSD physicians for early and advanced cancer diagnosis, staging and management/treatment with endoscopic ultrasound, needle biopsy and injections, placement of chemotherapeutic agents into cancer, placement of markers for radiation, early cancer endoscopic resection to prevent surgery, stent placements to relieve blockages, etc. He also works closely with the UCSD minimally invasive surgery group that is developing novel surgical and endoscopic solutions to complex problems and avoiding large surgeries. His referral practice also includes complex colonoscopies, endoscopic resection of large polyps and early tumors.
