Associate Professor Suzanne Nielsen is the Deputy Director of the Monash Addiction Research Centre at Monash University and an NHMRC Population Health Career Development Fellow. Suzanne is a registered pharmacist with more than 20 years of clinical experience working in substance use treatment settings. She has been involved in a series of clinical trials and cohort studies that have explored the long-term outcomes of opioid prescribing for chronic pain and experimental pain studies that have explored pharmacological strategies for pain management in opioid-dependent people. Her current research interests include developing novel strategies to reduce opioid-related harm, including understanding how to improve identification and treatment of prescription opioid use disorder, overdose prevention research, and exploring the opioid-sparing potential of cannabinoids.
