Dr. Suvro Satadal Sett received his MD from the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1983 and received the Horner Prize in Pediatrics, subsequently completing a rotating internship at City Hospital, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1984. He then completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Saskatchewan, passing the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada fellowship examinations in General Surgery in 1988. Dr. Sett then completed the residency in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in 1991 and passed the Royal College examinations in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in 1991.
From 1991 to 1993 Dr. Sett was a Duncan L. Gordon Fellow in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Research at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Sett then returned to the University of British Columbia as a pediatric cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, at British Columbia Children’s Hospital, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from 1993 until 2004. There he achieved the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery, University of British Columbia. Dr. Sett was an adult congenital cardiac surgeon at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from 1998-2004.
From 2004 to 2017 Dr. Sett was Chief, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, New York, and since 2006 Clinical Professor of Surgery, at New York Medical College.
Dr. Sett returned to Canada in 2017 as Head of the Division of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, at Izaak Walton Killam Hospital, and Professor of Surgery, at Dalhousie University. He also practices adult congenital cardiac surgery at the Halifax Infirmary. He has been a member of the Congenital Heart Surgeons Society since 2009. Dr. Sett’s clinical interests include surgery in neonates, children, and adults with congenital heart disease. He is involved in implementing the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database at the IWK.
