Dr. Susana R. Marino is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and the Director of the Transplant Immunology and Immunogenetics Laboratory at the University of Chicago. She has been active in the field of histocompatibility, immunogenetics, and transplantation immunobiology for over twenty-five years. Dr. Marino has been an active member of the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) serving on the laboratory director’s training program subcommittee, as inspector, on the ASHI accreditation review board as a regional commissioner and currently on the education committee and the international affairs committee.Dr. Marino has created two clinical HLA laboratories at Children’s Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL in 2000 and at the University of Chicago Medical Center in 2007. In 1994, Dr. Marino created the molecular histocompatibility testing laboratory in an existing HLA laboratory in Denver, CO. During her tenure, she was awarded two donor typing contracts from the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). Dr. Marino has been teaching residents and fellows for over ten years and has recently created the Transplantation Immunobiology Fellowship to train new HLA laboratory directors
