Mengden is a licensed psychologist and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist who has been treating eating disorders since 1988. While working on her Masters and Ph.D. at Boston College, she obtained training at the Eating Disorder’s Program at Westwood Lodge Psychiatric Hospital.
Mengden became the Director and Founder of the Eating Disorder Program at Brooke Army Medical Center. She led the first Department of Defense Multidisciplinary Treatment Team for Eating Disorders from 1997 to 2001. She moved into private practice where she ran an outpatient treatment team, coordinated eating disorder education for area clinicians, and supervised post-doctoral psychology residents at The University of Texas at San Antonio. During this time she was also appointed adjunct faculty at Our Lady of the Lake University for her supervision of doctoral practicum students. In 2007, Dr. Mengden and colleague Kay Watt founded EDCASA: Eating Disorder Center at San Antonio, a Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Program for males and females of all ages with Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge-Eating Disorder. Earlier this year, EDCASA partnered with Eating Recovery Center, an international center of excellence located in Denver which provides treatment for all types of eating disorders at all levels of care.
Dr. Mengden lectures locally and nationally across the country on treatment and prevention issues related to eating disorders. She has authored and contributed articles for various publications including San Antonio Medicine and Pediatric News.
Mengden is a member of: the Academy for Eating Disorders, where she serves on the Board Finance Committee; the International Association for Eating Disorder Professionals; the American Psychological Association; the Texas Psychological Association; the Binge-Eating Disorder Association; the National Eating Disorders Association; and, is president-elect of the San Antonio Group Psychotherapy Society.
