Susan A. Deering MD, MPH

Dr. Susan Deering, MD, MPH, is a dedicated family physician working in the Division of Long Term Care within the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada, and is a faculty fellow with the Collaborative Centre for Climate, Health & Sustainable Care at the University of Toronto. With nearly two decades of clinical experience, she provides primary care and consultant wound care, particularly for residents in long-term care settings such as the Veterans Centre at Sunnybrook.

Deeply committed to the health impacts of climate change, Dr. Deering has completed a Master of Public Health with a focus on how climate change affects human health, especially among vulnerable populations like older adults. Her work spans quality improvement projects that explore how primary care can build climate resilience, including helping at-risk patients access support for heat-related health interventions, and she co-chairs the Green Task Force at Sunnybrook Hospital, advocating for sustainability initiatives within healthcare. In addition to her clinical and population health work, Dr. Deering contributes to academic and professional development, having been recognized for excellence in teaching and engaged in curriculum development that integrates climate and health perspectives into medical education.
