Dr. Surendra Sharma is a Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Center of Excellence for Reproductive Health at Women and Infants Hospital and Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is the Principal Investigator/Director of the NIH-funded Center of Excellence for Reproductive Health. His laboratory has a multifaceted research program with long-term interests in placental biology, reproductive immunology, the pathogenesis of adverse pregnancy outcomes, and in utero immune programming of childhood diseases. His seminal research on shared etiologies between preeclampsia and Alzheimer's disease has been widely appreciated and has become the basis for clinical trials for both disorders.

Dr. Sharma has served as a member of numerous NIH and American Diabetes Association (ADA) review panels. Importantly, he served as President of the American Society for Reproductive Immunology and continues to be on the Society’s Executive Committee. Dr. Sharma has received numerous awards for his outstanding contribution to Reproductive Immunology and the etiology of pregnancy complications. He served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Immunology and currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology.
