Dr. Sunil Sharma has joined the University as section chief of West Virginia University’s Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep section. He has been appointed Chair of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Einstein Healthcare Network. Dr. Sharma joins Einstein from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University where he was Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Pulmonary Sleep Medicine.

Prior to joining Thomas Jefferson University, Dr. Sharma was Director of Sleep Medicine and Director of Outpatient Pulmonary Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina where he was instrumental in starting the multi-disciplinary Pulmonary Hypertension Center.

He earned his medical degree from MAMC/JIPMER Medical School in New Delhi, India, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. After his residency, Dr. Sharma completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, and a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In addition, Dr. Sharma completed six months of sleep medicine electives as part of a pulmonary fellowship and six months of supervised practice.

Dr. Sharma is board certified in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine; board certified in Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine; board certified in Pulmonary Medicine; board certified in Internal Medicine; and board certified in Critical Care.
