Dr. Sunil Mehra joined Mount Sinai as a Pulmonologist in 2017. After graduating with his medical degree from University Medical College in Amritsar, Dr. Mehra remained in India for training at Victoria Jubilee Medical College Hospital. He then moved to Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center for his residency in Internal Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident in his final year. To finish his training, Dr. Mehra completed a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at LI Jewish Hillside Medical Center, where he also served as Chief Fellow. With his board certifications in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Geriatrics, Dr. Mehra's clinical interests include sleep apnea, COPD, pneumonia, and lung cancer. Additionally, Dr. Mehra is multilingual and can communicate with his patients in English, Urdu, Hindi, and Spanish.

In conjunction with his clinical role, Dr. Mehra has held several clinical teaching roles since 1985 and currently serves as a Clinical Professor of Pulmonary, Critical Care, & Sleep Medicine at The Icahn School of Medicine. In his professional community, Dr. Mehra is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and holds fellowship status in the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American College of Angiology.

Dr. Mehra has an extensive history of research participation and has more than a dozen publications and presentations on topics within his scope of practice. He has also won multiple awards for both his clinical and academic work.
