Sunghoon Ivan Lee is a Managing Faculty Fellow and an Associate Professor in the College of Information and Computer Sciences, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UMass Amherst. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science (with Outstanding Research Award), MS in Computer Science, and MS in Electrical Engineering, all from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2010, 2013, and 2014, respectively. From 2014 to 2016, he was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School.
Ivan is a recipient of the NSF CRII Award (2018) and the NIH Trailblazer Award for Young Investigators (2018). His work has won several featured article awards, best paper awards, best demo awards, and runner-ups at premier academic venues, including IEEE TBME, TNSRE, JBHI, ACM SenSys, and ACM MobiSys. He is currently an Editor of IEEE EMBC and an Associate Editor of IEEE OJEMB and ACM HEALTH. He is also serving as a Technical Committee Member on Wearable Biomedical Sensors and Systems of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), and a Steering Committee Member of the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring at the Institute of Applied Life Sciences of UMass Amherst. Ivan has served as a technical program committee member and workshop chair for several flagship conferences in the area of wearable computing and health informatics. Ivan also frequently serves on scientific review panels for funding agencies such as the NSF and NIH. Particularly, he served as a co-chair of the study section (review panel) for the NCMRR Early Career Research Award, NICHD, NIH, in 2022.
