Dr. Sunghoon Park, a renowned biochemical engineer in Korea, received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from University of California, Davis in 1988. From 1988 to 1991, he worked as a research staff at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, CA. Since 1991, he has been Professor at Pusan National University (PNU). While teaching students at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, he has served PNU at various positions such as Department Chairperson (1997-1999), the Director of Institute for Environmental Technology and Industry (2002 – 2008), the Director of Institute of Environmental Studies (2006-2008), and the Dean of the International Affairs (2008-2011). He has also served professional and academic societies at several important positions. For example, he worked as Secretary General for Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering (1996-1998). Currently, Dr. Park is Editor-in-chief of Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering (BBE) and a senior editor of Journal of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (JIMB). Major research interest lies in microbial strain development and metabolic engineering for the production of biofuels and biochemicals from renewable resources. Dr. Park has published over 130 papers in peer reviewed journals and holds 16 patents.
