Sumitra Thongprasert MD, PhD

Dr. Sumitra currently holds the position of Director at the Cancer Center of Excellence at Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She is also Emeritus Professor in the Medical Oncology Division at Chiang Mai University. Outside of these roles, Dr. Sumitra has been Special Content Editor for the Journal of Thoracic Oncology 2013-2018, is a Consultant of the Thai Society of Clinical Oncology (TSCO) and is on the ESMO Board of Directors for 2017–2018. In addition, she was an IASLC board member for the period 2012–2015.

Dr. Sumitra received her medical training and completed her residency at Chiang Mai University. Later, she worked as Fellow in Hematology-Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA, before returning to Chiang Mai University to take up the position of Assistant Professor in Hematology-Oncology. Dr. Sumitra focuses her work on the treatment and research in Lung Cancer, she is a member of numerous national and international professional societies and has published extensively, particularly in the field of non-small cell lung cancer.
