Sue Tuck is the principal audiologist and director of Whitsunday Hearing, a local hearing service based in Cannonvale. Sue has worked in the public arena with the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), later known as Australian Hearing, where she gained diverse experience in testing children as well as older adults and providing hearing aids and rehabilitation for both groups. Sue has worked regularly since 2008 with the Remote Allied Health Corps in the Northern Territory’s remote aboriginal communities as part of the effort to improve hearing health in those regions. Here she has worked alongside nurses, Aboriginal-health workers and other remote health practitioners to identify and expedite treatment for ear disease and hearing loss. In 2010, in partnership with her husband Lew who is both an engineer and audiometrist, Sue helped establish a hearing program in Nepal, which and is now extending into northern India. Himalayan Health and Hearing has the aspiration to bring hearing help to those who are not otherwise receiving it. It relies on a wide network of people to make it happen and give local people the training, confidence, and resources to continue the program into the future.
