Dr Pavord qualified from the University of Leicester in 1988 and in her early career, spent time at McMaster University, Canada, researching Immune haematology. She has over 25 years’ experience in clinical and laboratory haematology. Her specialist areas of interest are anaemia and iron management, immune haematology, inherited and acquired bleeding disorders, thrombosis and anticoagulation, thrombosis prevention and obstetric haematology.
She leads a national group to drive the UK agenda on anaemia management, emphasising the importance of correcting preoperative anaemia to improve patient outcomes after surgery. Dr Pavord is a pioneer in the field of obstetric haematology and co-founded the British Society for Haematology Obstetric Haematology Group in 2004, highlighting the importance of specialised input in the management of pregnant patients with haematological conditions.
She is co-editor of a leading textbook, The Obstetric Haematology Manual (Pavord Hunt) and produced the national guidelines on anaemia in pregnancy and inherited bleeding disorders in pregnancy. Dr Pavord also runs an international course in the field and is in demand as a national and international speaker.
