Dr. Stuart H. Levine, MD, MHA, is the Executive Vice President at Heritage Provider Network. Previously, Dr. Levine was Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer at Accretive Health. In this role, he was a key leader in the company’s enhancement of physician engagement strategies, clinical quality capabilities, and future market development of Accretive Health’s Accountable Care program. Prior to that, Dr. Levine was the Vice President for Quality, Population Management and Behavioral Health at Blue Shield of California. Dr. Levine was also a leader at HealthCare Partners Medical Group of California, serving as the Corporate Medical Director and Regional Medical Director and overseeing the company’s administrative and clinical-focused initiatives. Under his leadership, the group took a private sector approach to health reform that led to impressive results.

Dr. Levine has also worked for leading payers, including Blue Shield of California and SCAN Health Plan. His payer experience includes responsibility for developing and executing innovative quality programs. He has also served as an administrator at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center and the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Dr. Levine holds a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine. Prior to that, Dr. Levine held a full time faculty position at LAC-USC in consultation liaison psychiatry prior to entering private practice. He later became the CEO of PsychCare Alliance, a behavioral health medical group that was contracted for almost one million patient lives throughout California prior to taking his current position at SCAN.

Dr. Levine graduated from SUNY at Stony Brook in 1975 with a degree in bioecology. He went on to complete his Masters Degree in Health Care Administration from George Washington University in 1978. He worked in various administrative roles from 1976 until 1981 including that of Assistant Administrator at University of California, San Francisco Hospitals and Clinics and University of Chicago Medical Center.

Dr. Levine graduated from the University of Illinois, Chicago Medical School in 1985. He did an internship in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at LAC-USC Medical Center. Dr. Levine completed a residency at UCLA-NPI in 1989 in psychiatry and specialized in consultation liaison psychiatry for which he was Chief Resident. Dr. Levine also completed fellowships from UCSF and Stanford, supported by the California Health Care Foundation in Health Policy and Leadership and Bio-Innovation respectively. Dr. Levine has over 60 publications and speaks regularly in National Forums.
