Stijn Blot is a full professor at the Internal Medicine Dept., Ghent University, Belgium, and an honorary professor at The University of Queensland, Australia. His education includes nursing and midwifery, a master's in nursing sciences, a bachelor-after-bachelor degree in emergency medicine and intensive care, and a doctoral degree in medical sciences. His research contains various aspects of healthcare-associated infections.

He has published more than 230 manuscripts and more than 30 chapters. His work was recognized with international awards, among which the ICAAC 2005 and ESCMID 2007 young investigator award, and the European Critical Care Research Network Patient Safety Award 2008. He is currently chair of the Nurses & Allied Health Professionals of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, research officer of the ESCMID Study Group for Infections in Critically Ill Patients, and editorial board member of the American Journal of Critical Care and Australian Critical Care.
