Dr. Steven R. Levine, MD, FAHA, FAAN, FANA is a vascular neurologist in the Department of Neurology at Maimonides Medical Center and a Distinguished Professor at SUNY. He is Executive Vice Chairman of Neurology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and the Director of the SUNY Downstate Regional Stroke Program. He completed his residency in neurology at The University of Michigan Medical Center and his fellowship at Henry Ford Health Sciences Center (A Designated NIH Center for Stroke Research).

Dr. Levine is active in research, clinical trials and was a site principal investigator for the NINDS rt-PA Stroke Trial that led to FDA approval of tPA for acute stroke treatment in 1996. He has published extensively throughout his long vascular neurology career and has been funded by NIH for his stroke research for over 30 years.

Dr. Levine has been caring for stroke and TIA patients for close to 35 years and his outpatient practice is focused on evidence-based stroke prevention strategies, identifying potential treatments within clinical trials for patients to participate in, and determining the cause of stroke in patients where the cause is not clear or has not been determined. Dr. Levine is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology and in Vascular Neurology. He has received numerous honors and awards for his patient care, teaching and research.
