Steven G. Potkin, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist who has treated psychiatric patients for the past four decades. His clinical skills are noteworthy and have repeatedly been acknowledged as among, “The Best Doctors in America.” Dr. Potkin is a recipient of the Riley Public Service Award, The Exemplary Psychiatry Award of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, The Mitchell B. Balter Award, the AE Bennett Clinical Science Research Award, and is a member of the Brain and Behavior Foundation (NARSAD) Scientific Council. He is a distinguished Life Fellow of the APA. He is a recipient of the NARSAD Distinguished Investigator Award.

Dr. Potkin’s major research interests are investigating the underlying causes of serious mental illness and dementia while developing novel treatments for these illnesses. He has played a pioneering role in the development of the field of imaging genetics. Dr. Potkin is also an Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at UCI Irvine, and Director of Pharmacogenomics and Clinical Neuroscience at the Long Beach Veterans Administration. Dr. Potkin has authored/co-authored >350 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles. He is a founding member of the International College of Geriatric Psychopharmacology and serves on the scientific committee of the International Society for CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology. Dr. Potkin’s specialties: Clinical trials, evidence-based medicine, psychopharmacology, brain imaging, biological psychiatry, serious mental illness, precision medicine, and medical education.
