Dr. Steven Schaefer was among the first American physicians to train in Europe in minimally invasive or functional endoscopic sinus surgery. This work led to the authoring textbooks and reports introducing surgical techniques for ethmoid and frontal sinus surgery, orbital surgery for thyroid eye disease (a.k.a., Grave’s Disease), optic nerve decompression, improving lacrimal duct drainage (DCR, Dacryocystorhinostomy), repair of cerebral spinal fluid fistulas into the nose, and open and endoscopic resection of nasal and skull base tumors.
