Dr. Steven A. Goldman is the URMC Distinguished Professor of Neuroscience and Neurology and co-Director of Rochester's Center for Translational Neuromedicine. He has a concurrent appointment as a Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and as co-director of its sister Center for Translational Neuromedicine. He also serves as Senior Vice President and Head of CNS Therapy at Sana Biotechnology, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Goldman moved to Rochester in 2003 from the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, where he was the Nathan Cummings Professor of Neurology, and Attending Neurologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital. A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he obtained his Ph.D. with Fernando Nottebohm at Rockefeller University in 1983, and his MD from Cornell in 1984. Dr. Goldman interned in Medicine and did his residency in Neurology at both New York Hospital-Cornell and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, before joining the Cornell faculty. Goldman moved to Rochester as the Dean Zutes Chair in Biology of the Aging Brain, and as Chief of the Neurology department's Division of Cell and Gene Therapy; he subsequently served as the founding director for Rochester's neuro-oncology training program and served as Chairman of the Department (2008-12). Dr. Goldman remains active clinically, with subspecialty interests in myelin disease and neuro-oncology, and additional research interests in stem cell-based treatment of neurological disease.
