Steven A. Cohen PhD

Steven Cohen received his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology, where his research with Prof. John Bercaw focused on synthetic and mechanistic organotitanium and organoniobium chemistry. Following a postdoctoral position in the Corporate Research Science Laboratory of Exxon Research and Engineering Co., Dr. Cohen moved to Amoco Chemical (which became BP Chemical and later INEOS), where he carried out primarily catalyst and process research for the Polypropylene (PP), Linear Alpha Olefins (LAO), and Ammoxidation Catalyst R&D groups. In these roles, he was the inventor or co-inventor of several products and innovations including high modulus PP, a material recovery process for synthesizing high activity catalyst (PP), a catalyzed chain growth process for LAO, and high selectivity propane ammoxidation catalysts. Dr. Cohen moved to Elevance during its inaugural year to serve as catalyst research advisor, co-developing metathesis-based biorefinery processes for chemicals and fuels. Since 2009, he has been Director of Catalyst and Chemicals Technology R&D where he coordinates the work of a very talented group of scientists engaged in catalyst research, specialty chemical synthesis, andmonomer/polymer development. He also has served since 2012 on the Catalyst Advisor Board of Calera Corporation.
