Steve Solomon MD

Steve Solomon currently serves as Director of the Office of Antimicrobial Resistance in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, in the Office of Infectious Diseases at CDC. He received a B.A. from Rutgers University in 1971 and an M.D. from Tufts University in 1975. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Preventive Medicine. Dr. Solomon was in the clinical practice of internal medicine and infectious diseases before joining the U.S. Public Health Service in 1981. At that time, he was assigned to CDC as an officer in the Epidemic Intelligence Service with the Hospital Infections Program in CDC’s Center for Infectious Diseases. He completed his Preventive Medicine Residency (PMR) training at CDC and later served as Assistant Director of CDC’s PMR Program.

Dr. Solomon has held several senior positions at CDC developing, conducting and directing collaborative research and demonstration programs with academic institutions, hospitals and health systems, and state and local health departments. In addition to his work in the areas of infection control, healthcare epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance, he also focused in recent years on health systems research and using information technology and health communication to evaluate and improve clinical and public health services.
