Stephen K. Brannan, MD, is the Vice President and Therapeutic Area Head for Neuroscience at Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Prior to joining TGRD in July 2008, he worked at Novartis from 2007-2008, at Cyberonics from 2003-2007, and with Lilly from 2001-2003. Prior to working in Industry he worked in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Dr. Brannan was also a Senior Scientist with the Research Imaging Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Brannan graduated (magna cum laude) from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He attended medical school at Southwestern (UTHSCD), where he received his medical degree in 1985, and then served a psychiatric residency at UTHSCSA from 1985-1989. He completed a psychiatry research fellowship at Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in 1992. Dr. Brannan is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Brannan is a member of many professional and scientific organizations, (ISCTN, SFN, ISCDD, APA, etc). He has been a reviewer for numerous journals, and has published 5 book chapters, 35 journal articles and more than 65 abstracts. Additionally, Dr. Brannan was selected to be included in the first edition of The Best Doctors in America: Central Region (1996-1997), and was later listed in The Best Doctors in America (1998); he has also been listed as one of America’s Top Psychiatrists (2004).
