Stephen J. Ziegler PhD, JD

Stephen J. Ziegler, Ph.D., J.D., trained as both a social scientist and attorney (prosecution and defense), conducts research, provides continuing medical education and consultation on matters relating to the medico-legal barriers to the treatment of pain, drug policy, safe access to palliative medicines, and effective medical cannabis regulation (ensuring access and preventing abuse). He has published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals in the United States and Europe, was a Mayday Pain Scholar in 2003, a research fellow at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Zurich, Switzerland in 2005, and a Mayday Pain and Society Fellow in 2014. Prior to his work in pain management and policy, Dr Ziegler gained experience and insight as an assistant prosecutor, defence attorney, appellate attorney, police officer, detective, and as a Task Force Officer for the U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration.
