Dr. Stephen J. Pomeranz the physician leader and interpreting radiologist at MRI of Southfield is a renowned world authority in the field of diagnostic imaging, particularly MRI. His extensive background and experience interpreting more than 500,000 MRI examinations (including over 10,000 breast MRI scans), along with his expertise in the provision of medical education and professional mentoring, provide the best there is to offer for attending physicians and their patients in the area of diagnostic imaging.
Along with his work at MRI of Southfield, Dr. Pomeranz is the founder, Chief Executive Officer, and Medical Director of ProScan Imaging and the ProScan Imaging Education Foundation, as well as Chief Medical Director, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and member of the scientific advisory board for WorldCare Clinical, LLC. A noted MRI, CT, and PET consultant to medical facilities, hospitals, and professional sports teams around the world, Dr. Pomeranz has trained more than 100 fellows in MR and CT imaging.
A graduate of Brown University and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, he is board-certified in radiology, is a sub-specialist in musculoskeletal radiology, and is a neuroradiologist (with a Certificate of Added Qualification), He has also completed fellowships in MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and special procedures.
In addition, Dr. Pomeranz is active in many medical and imaging organizations – including the Clinical Magnetic Resonance Society (CMRS), which he founded. Along with his duties as the former editor-in-chief of the quarterly newsletter CMRS Vision, Dr. Pomeranz has written, co-authored, and edited numerous textbooks, including the essential three-volume reference the “MRI Total Body Atlas”, as well as multiple refereed journal articles, and many multimedia educational materials on advanced medical imaging topics.
As part of Proscan’s Michigan operation, Dr. Pomeranz has provided expert radiology service, consultation, and education to local attending physicians exclusively at MRI of Southfield for the past thirteen years. Dr. Pomeranz’s nonprofessional achievements include; past membership on the US Olympics team, a Golden Gloves boxing championship, an NAAU Karate Championship, and the Jim Thorpe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship in amateur athletics.
