Stephen Gerard Jenkins PhD

Stephen G. Jenkins, Ph.D., a clinical microbiologist for over 35 years, currently serves as Director of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratories at New York Presbyterian Hospital Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and as a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as well as a Professor of Pathology in Medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, NY. Dr. Jenkins obtained his Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology at the University of Vermont and did his postdoctoral residency in Clinical and Public Health Microbiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI.

In addition to his current appointment, Dr. Jenkins has held past faculty appointments as Professor of Pathology and Professor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY, as an Associate Professor of Pathology and as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine as well as serving as Global Director of Microbiology and interim Global Director of Anti-infectives for Aventis Pharmaceuticals, in which capacity he was largely involved in the clinical trials and successful FDA submission of the antimicrobial agent telithromycin.

Dr. Jenkins has published 16 textbook chapters and served as a section editor for the Clinical Microbiology Procedures Handbook. Additionally he has co-authored twenty CLSI Standards, authored or co-authored over 135 articles in such peer-reviewed journals as Emerging Infectious Diseases, the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, the Journal of Medical Microbiology, Transplantation, Pediatrics, Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, Clinical Infectious Diseases, Reviews in Medical Microbiology, Clinical Nephrology; the Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology, Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, the Southern Medical Journal, Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, the European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, the Journal of Infectious Diseases, the British Journal of Haematology, and the American Journal of Medicine. In addition, he has authored 21 monographs and invited articles and 150 abstracts, presented at national and international professional society meetings.
