Stephen W. English Jr., MD, MBA, is a board-certified vascular neurologist and Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He specializes in cerebrovascular disease, acute stroke care, and the application of innovative technologies to improve neurological outcomes. As a clinician, educator, and researcher, Dr. English is dedicated to advancing stroke treatment through telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and remote neurological care solutions.
Dr. English's clinical expertise encompasses the acute management of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, transient ischemic attacks, carotid and vertebral artery disease, cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations, cerebral small vessel disease, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and complex stroke prevention strategies. He has particular expertise in managing cardioembolic stroke, including conditions related to atrial fibrillation, patent foramen ovale (PFO), and left atrial appendage closure.
His research focuses on improving stroke care delivery and outcomes through telemedicine and emerging technologies. Dr. English earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Trinity College, followed by both his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University at Buffalo. He completed his neurology residency training at Mayo Clinic and subsequently pursued fellowship training in Vascular Neurology at Emory University.
