Stephen C. Dorner, MD, MPH, MSc, is the Chief Clinical and Innovation Officer, responsible for leading the design, implementation, and ongoing improvement of key service lines and capabilities, shifting the site of care from the hospital setting into the home. These efforts are tightly aligned with the goals of enabling a lower-cost site of care, helping provide more flexible in-hospital capacity, and leveraging technology to extend the reach of our expert providers. In addition to serving as a practicing emergency physician, Dr. Dorner is striving to build home-based care to ensure Mass General Brigham is building a leading patient-centered care model for the future.

Originally from Georgia and a University of Georgia bulldog, he received an MD from Vanderbilt University, MPH in policy and management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and an MSc in Global Health from Trinity College Dublin where he was a Mitchell Scholar. Dr. Dorner completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency through Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women's Hospital. The Emergency Department affords a unique view of the gaps, inequity, and deficiencies in the healthcare system. Inspired to improve healthcare access, quality, and efficiency through policy and operational change, Dr. Dorner became an Emergency Physician and uses his clinical experience to develop initiatives to fix a broken healthcare system.

Hospitals and ERs have never been more crowded, healthcare costs higher, workers more depleted, or patients more frustrated. As the Chief Clinical and Innovation Officer for Home-Based Care, Dr. Dorner works with innovative leaders to fix healthcare by shifting it out of hospitals and into patients’ homes, delivering healthcare as it should be.
