Stephanie Muth BA, MPA

Stephanie Muth is the state Medicaid director, overseeing Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program services across Texas. Medicaid and CHIP serve more than 4 million Texans, including infants, pregnant women, people in nursing homes and people with complex medical conditions. It’s the largest program in Texas Health and Human Services. Muth has worked in Texas government for 20 years, starting her career as a legislative aide in the Texas House of Representatives.

Her most recent assignment was deputy executive commissioner for transformation. She was responsible for transformation initiatives, including reorganizing health and human services agencies to improve client experiences and increase efficiencies. In her career she has spearheaded several initiatives to increase program accuracy and efficiency. As Texas Health and Human Services Commission deputy executive commissioner of social services, she led the transformation from paper-based applications for benefits to a robust self-service system. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a master's degree in public affairs from The University of Texas in Austin.
