Dr. Stephanie J. Nahas earned her undergraduate degree in biology (AB, cum laude) at Harvard in 1995. She then went to Rush Medical College where, after a brief detour to pursue a Masters's degree (MSEd) in instructional technology from the University of Southern California in 1998, she earned her MD in 2001. She completed an internship at Rush followed by a neurology residency then a fellowship in headache medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. In January 2007, after 1.5 years of fellowship training, she joined the faculty and became the Program Director for the Headache Medicine Fellowship at the Jefferson Headache Center of Thomas Jefferson University.

In July 2023, she assumed the role of Assistant Director in support of a colleague and junior faculty member. She is a dedicated advocate for the field, having attended all but one Headache on the Hill event with the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy (AHDA) in Washington, DC since 2007, and has served on the AHDA Board of Directors since 2018 (Vice President February 2018 – November 2019, Interim President November 2019 – February 2020, Member at Large February 2020 – present).

Dr. Nahas serves on the Board of Directors of the American Headache Society (AHS), is former Co-Chair of and current Senior Advisor to the “First Contact: Headache Education in Primary Care” Committee of the AHS, and also serves on the Scottsdale Program Planning Committee for the AHS. She is a former Section Editor for Current Pain and Headache Reports (2017-2022) and current Neurology Editorial Review Group Chair for Doody Enterprises (since 2017).
