Dr.Vieths is the vice president of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut.Professor Vieths is a state-certified food chemist and professor (auberplanmabiger Professor) for food chemistry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University at Frankfurt/Main, Germany.In 1979 he started studying chemistry at the Christian Albrechts University at Kiel and changed to the "Technische Universität Berlin" in 1984, where he completed his degree in food chemistry in 1986. After completing his PhD thesis at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute of the then German Federal Health Authority (Bundesgesundheitsamt) in 1989, he took on a position at the Institute for Food Chemistry of the "Technische Universität Berlin" where he established his own research group in allergology and obtained his "Habilitation" (state doctorate) in 1995. From 1995 to 2002, Professor Vieths was head of the section "Development and Standardisation of Allergen Extracts" at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut in Langen. In 2002, he was appointed head of "Allergology Division". Since 1 April 2010, he has been the vice president of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut.
