Stefan Lange studied medicine at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf from 1982 to 1989 and received his doctorate there in 1994. From 1989 to 1993, he worked as a physician at the Medical Clinic of the Ferdinand Sauerbruch Klinikum in Wuppertal. In 1993, he moved to the Department of Medical Informatics, Biometry, and Epidemiology at Ruhr University Bochum. In 1999, he obtained the Certificate of Biometry in Medicine from the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry, and Epidemiology (GMDS). He qualified as a professor at Ruhr University in 2003. In November 2004, he joined IQWiG, where he headed the "Non-Drug Interventions" department until the end of 2007. Since 2005, he has served as Deputy Director. In recent years, he has contributed to the development of the EU-HTA at the European level for IQWiG.
