Dr. Stavros Kakkos MD, MSc, Ph.D., RVT, currently holds the post of the Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Patras Medical School, Patras, Greece. He studied Medicine at the same University between 1984 and 1990 and graduated with honors. In 1995 he was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine by the University of Patras, while in 1997 he finished his training in General Surgery at the University Hospital of Patras, Greece.

In 1998 he was awarded the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation scholarship to study for the degree of Master of Science in Vascular Technology and Medicine, in London, UK. This degree was awarded by the University of London in 1999. Between 1999-2003 he performed research with the Department of Vascular Surgery, Imperial College, London, the UK towards a Ph.D., which was granted by the University of London in 2004. During 2004-2007 he continued his clinical training in Vascular Surgery, in England and the USA (Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan), before returning to Greece in 2008.

Dr Kakkos has received numerous awards and distinctions for his clinical and research activities. He has so far participated in six multicentre studies, authored over 160 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and also contributed to over 150 conference presentations and 15 book chapters. His publications have so far received over 3000 citations and his Hirst index is 32 (Scopus 7/2017), while for the last years he has an association with Imperial College London.
