Dr. Sophia E. Kramer, neuropsychologist, is Professor in Auditory Functioning and Participation at the department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of the VU University medical center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She holds a University Research Chair and is co-director of the Quality of Care program of the Amsterdam Public Health research institute. Prof. Kramer is mainly involved in research, but also engaged in patient care. Her research focuses on the psychosocial effects of adult hearing impairment and the development of methods to assess these effects. Further major interests are in the cognitive aspects related to hearing impairment, including the assessment of listening effort using the method of pupillometry, and innovations in hearing health care. She serves as coordinator of various (inter)national research projects and published over 100 scientific papers and book. From 2008 – 2011 she worked at Oticon’s Research Center, Denmark as research project leader. Dr. Kramer served as president of the International Collegium of Rehabilitative Audiology and received the International Award in Hearing from the American Academy of Audiology in 2016.
